This is the most common misunderstanding amongst the people that ayurvedic medicines being herbal in nature must not have any side effects. But this is not true at all. Ayurvedic medicines are not only herbal, but there are many medicines which contain minerals, gold, silver, copper, bhasma etc. which are first purified and then used in medicines. Also the way ayurvedic medicines work on the body is different. For eg. an ayurvedic medicine given to a patient of arthritis may not work in the same manner for another patient as the ayurvedic medicine works depending upon the Dosha of the disease involved. Also the mode of action of ayurvedic medicines is different in each condition and person. Acharya Charak, who is considered as the Father of Indian Medicine, who compiled the Charak Samhita has mentioned in Sutra Sthan Chapter 1 that over dose/improper dose of medicine can act as a poison in the body, but also a poison if used in correct manner and dosage can act as a medicine. The most common example in modern days can be of anti-venom. Anti-venom injections used for snake bite poison is actually made by using the snake poison itself. Therefore before consuming any ayurvedic medicine always consult an ayurvedic doctor as now-a-days specially on instagram there are many self proclaimed influencers who advise many things which can cause side effects. Therefore it is a myth that most people have that ayurvedic medicines do not have side effects.
